LTUE 2010

I was able to attend the Science Fiction and Fantasy Symposium again this year. Tryn came down for the weekend and we had fun attending several different courses. The conference usually has a few famous authors and artists as special guests and this year was no exception. Brandon Sanderson was a Guest of Honor and Brandon Mull and Dan Wells were special guests. Love it. I also love that everyone that speaks at these things throw book titles out like crazy so I have a whole slew of stories to find. Especially when the make the list for you and hand it out. :D

Really good stuff. I'm super glad I had the time to go to so many of the courses.

Percy Jackson Update

I loved the movie and I'm so happy I could go with three of my roommates (and wearing the matching necklaces)!



The best part of going to the midnight showing: seeing tons of bright orange Camp Half Blood T-shirts and a few NY Yankees caps.

The best part of the movie: the Vegas scene. Hands down.

Stake Dance

So, last week our stake hosted a dance. And since Tryn was down, she came, too. And, since it was Valentine's Day weekend, you can see all of our support for that crazy holiday. :D

Oh man, if you're not Mormon, you don't know what you're missing out on. And, since most of the people that occasionally glance at this blog aren't in my stake, here is a sample of the activities:

Valentine's Day

I promise I won't get (too) sappy. ;)

What I gave for Valentine's Day:

• a really cheesy card (think: Nacho Libre)
• Twilight candy hearts (they were the only variety at the store. They said things like "dazzle" and "bite me." ::facepalm::)
• iTunes gift card (because, seriously, that's the best thing to get Kralc)
  

What I got for Valentine's Day:

• alone time with Clark
• a book filled with historical essays
• a beautiful purple bouquet

Percy Jackson necklace

First of all, Tryn is pretty much the coolest person ever for making these necklaces (one for each roommate who had read them).

Second, I'm SO EXCITED to see the Percy Jackson movie tonight!

So, here's a little backstory on the beads: Each year, at the end of the summer at Camp Half-Blood, the campers receive a bead with a symbol that sort of embodies what happened that year. Since they receive four beads over the course of the series, Tryn included each one (the first for a son of Poseidon coming to camp, the second for the Quest for the Golden Fleece, the third for the Labyrinth and the fourth for the Great Battle at the Empire State building). Not only did Tryn make those by hand, but she included beading in between which match the colors of the covers of each of the five books.

Have I mentioned how much I love Tryn?

the Jazz

Clark's aunt had a lot of tickets for the Jazz game this evening and was willing to share with us. :) I got a few shots from our vantage point in the upper bowl.

It's a small world

This morning, at the temple, my roommate pointed another young woman out to me. "That's Mark's sister." (Mark being a grad student I met last night.) I looked up and lo and behold, it's the girl my cousin has been dating for 5+ years.

We giggled for a while as we remembered how interconnected everyone's lives are. :)
