Azucena's Halloween Parade

Since Azucena attends school every other day, her class missed participating in the school-wide costume parade. The school makes up for it by having a Kindergarten-only parade the next day. It was fun to watch her and all her classmates walk down the hallways proudly showing off their costumes!

Halloween!

I know I'm weird when I say this, but I love dressing my kids for Halloween in regular clothes more than in costumes! Costumes are fun, but black and orange striped tights are even more fun! Yes, yes, total Mom fail, but whatever. :D

 Aurora's hair can be explained by one thing: HALLOWEEN. (Or, she just woke from a nap.)

 Mom wins Grandma-of-the-Year because Azucena told her she wanted to be Rapunzel with her long, beautiful hair, so my mom went and made this wig for her. YUP. Thanks, Mom!

Halloween Costumes

Halloween has come and gone but the girls really enjoyed celebrating this year! We went to the ISU trunk-or-treat Wednesday night, the Clarion Inn Boo Fest Thursday, the Chubbuck library Friday night, and to the downtown trick or treat walk Saturday afternoon before heading out for candy in our neighborhood and going to the Allen's Halloween party. Wednesday and Thursday the girls wore their back up costumes (Sofia and Anna) and since both were outside Aurora wore her mummy onesie.
Friday and Saturday the girls wore their real costumes (which were picked up by Abuelita and brought to us by Mom last week): Azucena was Princess Belle and Adelaide was Princess Snow White. Aurora used her Cinderella costume that she wore to Disneyland. Azucena had a really rough go with her costume. I had to have layers underneath so that none of the fabrics or stitching would "give owies."

 

Halloween

There was an elaborate plan for Halloween that went out the window when I couldn't find ANYTHING for my costume (Clark and I were going to be Pacha and Chicha from The Emperor's New Groove and the girls would be Disney villains). So instead, about a week and a half before Halloween, we found a Dorothy costume at a thrift store ($2!) and since she already had a basket and Toto and "ruby" slippers, we figured that was good enough for us and made Adelaide Glinda the Good Witch. She LOVED her wand!

 Pocatello has a trick-or-treat walk downtown (in "Old Town") where you just go down a few of the streets and different businesses have small pieces of candy to hand out to the children. It's right in the afternoon so we had gorgeous weather for the girls and they said "trick-or-treat" to everyone--in barely heard whispers. It was kind of ridiculously busy but the girls enjoyed themselves, Clark and I got exercise, and they enjoyed the candy that they did get.

 

The girls also went trick-or-treating around our block. They really liked walking around with Clark and I really, REALLY enjoyed handing out candy to the neighborhood kids. It's the first time since we've been married that we've had more than one trick-or-treater show up at our door. :)

Halloween Cookies

The store had some chocolate sugar cookie dough on sale so Clark and I picked it up so the girls could have a chance to make holiday cookies (when I make cookies, I never make sugar cookies--deprived children, I know). We pulled out the cookie cutters (thanks, Mom!) and showed the girls what to do. We even had chocolate frosting and M&Ms so the girls could decorate their creations!

Pumpkin Patch Again

While Mom and Dad were here, we decided to try the pumpkin patch again so Adelaide could enjoy it (for once). That, and both girls kept saying, "show Grandma and Grandpa the pumpkins?" which meant we really had no choice. :)

 There is a short, simple maze for the kids to enjoy. Azucena and Adelaide ran up and down each "option"--until they realized they could climb on top of the hay bales and walk around much easier. Stinkers!

 

 Grandma and Grandpa were kind enough to buy some "giant pumpkins!" for the girls. They are now sitting on our porch and the girls say hi to them multiple times a day. :D

 

Pumpkin Patch FHE

For family home evening we took the girls to the Golden Pumpkin Patch that's pretty much down the road from us. Unfortunately, Adelaide fell asleep on the way there (it's only a mile away!) so we didn't get to do much but Azucena still had fun. :)

 This pumpkin was so cool looking! You don't find 'em like this at the grocery store.

 Azucena kept running up to pumpkins and asking for her picture to be taken. She also hugged just about every large pumpkin she walked past. The patch also had an adorable Olaf pumpkin man built and Azucena spent several minutes talking and singing to him. So cute!

Halloween 2013

 Halloween! And I have a child that understand what's going on (for the most part)! Pocatello's fire and police departments were hosting a trick-or-treat in the local mall. We swung by and Azucena loved running in and out of stores to see what was going on (her favorite was American Eagle because they had "Christmas trees!" and an "eagle!"). She even began to say "trick or treat" with the last three or four vendors. I love my daughters and I love that they were so happy tonight!

 

Two Parties

Wednesday, October 24th, Clark and I got to go out on a date! I listen to a show called "Showtunes Tonight" (formerly Showtunes Saturday Night) on 106.5 FM here in Utah. I *love* this show. For five hours on Saturday, they play showtunes! This involves everything from Rogers & Hammerstein to Sondheim to Mel Brooks' "the Producers." Anyway, a few weeks ago the dj had some free tickets to "The Scarlet Pimpernel" up at Centerpointe Legacy Theatre. I entered the giveaway but didn't win that night. 

Happily, about a week later, I received an e-mail saying she had come across some extra tickets and would I like to have two of them? OF COURSE I WOULD! Clark and I chose a Wednesday night to use our tickets so that Azucena could hang out with her grandparents and so that we could have front row balcony tickets. :D

The show was amazing, the cast was SUPER talented, the costumes were out-of-this-world, and Clark and I are seriously discussing purchasing season tickets for next year because we had such a great experience. Here's a (terrible) shot of us in front of the show poster):

We also went to a family Halloween party, which was fantastic, since it meant Azucena could spend time with cousins close to her age.

 

 

Admit it--if she showed up at your door, you'd say "awwww!" and give her candy. :)

Review

So, I don't do the cataloging thing very much but last week was so crazy busy that I just wanted to be able to remember what I did for the entire second half:

Tuesday
Got to hang out at Clint's house with Kralc and a few other people and watch the first "real" episode of SYTYCD. Also, clips during commercials. It kind of makes me happy that my two favorite people to watch that show with are guys. :D Plus, it gives me a completely different perspective on the show.

Wednesday
I purchased tickets to the "This Is It" show a few weeks ago, so a little before 7 pm, Elizabeth, Kralc and I piled into Rockie's car and made our way to the show. The best part? A few rows back a bunch of women were behaving like we were at an actual concert and applauded after each song and yelled things like "I love you Michael!" the entire time.

Thursday
A month ago, Becks sent a rather urgent text asking if I wanted to see the King's Singers in concert. The answer? HECK YES. Our show was scheduled for the 29th and I'd have to say that I was not disappointed, at all. They're great to see live; lots of little jokes, dancing, and, of course, they have great accents. :)

Friday
Well, this is when a lot of people celebrated Halloween. At least, the older kids. Kralc and I went to the planetarium show which was based on Harry Potter constellations/stories (I loved it! Kralc's comment? "They've tricked me into learning!" Hee hee hee.) After getting home, we put on our costumes (Harry Potter and Professor Sinistra) and made our way to the Stake Halloween dance (which was AWESOME). Unfortunately, neither of us had eaten dinner before all the festivities, so we went to Taco Bell around 10 pm and grabbed the movie RV and watched it in the lounge. *I did have a hat that has stars all over it, for those of you wondering at my costume. I just wasn't wearing it for the picture.

Anyway, Saturday is a story in an of itself and I don't have those pictures with me, so I'll post another update soon. Hooray for crazy busy weeks right before traveling!

Happy Halloween!

Well, even though it was a quiet holiday, I still had a lot of fun. After all, when else can I celebrate TWO roommates' birthdays and go to a stake Halloween dance and see a Harry Potter themed planetarium show?

And even though all of that was amazing, I'm still pretty sure my favorite part was the nap I just woke up from. :D

Nothing and, yet, everything!

I don't understand how so much can be going on in my life and yet I have nothing to write in this blog about.

Although I *will* write that on Friday our stake had a Halloween Dance/party and it was ridiculously fun to get dressed up and help others get there, too. :D

For example:
I don't know if you can tell, but he's supposed to be Brendan Flowers from the Killers. And he has a fohawk, which took, like, twenty minutes to do. It was frawesome. I'll post more pictures later. Maybe.
