Texas Gibson Reunion - Part 2

The main event Saturday (besides making the 8 hour drive back to Alamosa) was lunch at Cattleman's Ranch. Can I just say that the crust/seasoning on that steak was FREAKING DELICIOUS? Oh my goodness, if every steak I ever ate tasted like that, I'd be just fine. (Clark said he wanted some A-1 but that's just sinful.) The sides were pretty darn awesome, too: home rolls, slow-cooked chili, and pineapple coleslaw (sounds weird, but so good).

And before I go on about food too much, there was family there, too. Got to see great aunt Harriett, June, Glenn and Allyn, met Allyn's granddaughter and great-granddaughter for the first time, and lots of others were there. So grateful Clark could get the time off of work!

Texas Gibson Reunion - Part 1

The Gibson side of the family had a reunion the last weekend of July to celebrate Uncle Allyn's 88th birthday. Clark, the girls and I drove down to Alamosa a few days beforehand to spend a few days with Mom and Dad and Daniel before whisking Mom away to the reunion. Since we were driving, the girls got TWO new states on their checklist: New Mexico and Texas.

 One of the first things we did in Texas was visit Granddaddy, Toots (his wife, my great-grandmother), and Aunt Geraldine (his sister) at the Restlawn Cemetery in El Paso. We had the employees clean up the grave site a little bit and left new flowers.

Bob and Joy were kind enough to offer up their house as a place for us to gather for dinner the first night we were down. It was nice to have a more relaxed atmosphere to catch up with cousins, aunts and uncles. Also, there was a pretty awesome cake for the birthday boy!

Independence Day 2014

This year for Independence Day we took it pretty easy. I didn't want to have to get the girls up early for the parade in Pocatello plus we found out on the first that we actually have to move out by the end of July instead of the end of August! So now we have a lot of packing and moving to do and not much time.
Happily, we were invited to the Anderson BBQ potluck so we had fun making a fiesta salsa, watermelon cookies, and wrapping licorice sticks in patriotic-themed paper to share. They even had sparklers and small fireworks for the kids (and adults) to enjoy.
It was a great Independence Day! Hope y'all had fun celebrating, too!

 

Pool Night!

Turns out the Pocatello pool has half-off nights on Monday and Wednesday all summer long. The Allens were kind enough to invite us to hang out with them and the girls loved the kid area and the "lazy river" area. So much fun!
