New Cousins

Azucena has been blessed to have three second cousins born in the last couple of months. I keep forgetting to get pictures of the girl cousins (sorry McKenzie and Masie!), but this is Azucena meeting little Anthony Diaz.

(This face is absolutely priceless. Really truly!)

Yes!

Tonight, Azucena looked right at me and said, "mamamama."

Hooray!

(Then she looked at Clark and said the same thing. I don't care, it counts in my book!)

Woe to the bather

As I read a friend's blog about how much her daily routine/expectations have changed due to motherhood, I couldn't help but laugh a little about how something as simple as showering every day just doesn't happen anymore. I loved that she seemed to take it in stride.

I don't often mind the little things that get postponed or dropped altogether because I have my wonderful daughter now, but I must confess that last night, as I pulled myself out of a warm bath that I'd only been in for two minutes because Azucena woke up crying, I was a little sad that I don't get as much "me-time" as I used to.

But I still wouldn't trade it for anything!

Clark's Birthday Lunch

Brady and Clark's mom were so sweet and came down to Provo to take Clark out to lunch. We went to Sammy's, which is a local burger joint in downtown Provo. It was delicious and was a cute, fun, beatnik-y environment. Because it was such a small place, Azucena spent most of the meal sitting underneath the food bar. :D

Crumby Day

Last Monday (the 9th), Azucena had a blood draw scheduled at the doctor's office. The researcher suggested that I give Azucena some apple juice about a half hour before her appointment. Since I've never given Azucena apple juice (who gives juice to a seven month old?!) and I wasn't sure if she'd take it, I decided to try to make her thirsty first--by given her her very first graham cracker. Which she loved! She would hold the cracker in her mouth and gnaw on it, pull it out, and give me a huge, messy smile. Unfortunately, every time she did that, she wiggled, so those pictures came out blurry. Here's a semi-side shot of all the crumbs left on her face. :D (And, as a side note for me to remember, she got really, really wiggly and chatty for about 20 minutes, then crashed for an hour afterward. Her first experience with real sugar!)

Auto Show

Yeah, you read that correctly: an auto show.

And I was there.

:)

Clark had to go to an event of some sort for one of his classes this semester and his choices were the gun show, the ammo show, and about seven bridal fairs. I think he chose wisely.

Anyway, nothing crazy to report, although we did put Azucena in a bunch of car trunks just for kicks and giggles. :D

The Times, They Are A-Changin'

Houston, we might have a problem . . .

7 Months

Happy seven months old, daughter! I can't believe how much you've grown and how old you already are!

You do so much now:
*You love sitting up and looking around.
*You love getting and grabbing things (especially the things that you shouldn't, like plastic bags and newspaper).
*You are endlessly entertained by balloons and when you catch one in your hands, you turn it around until you can find the tie, then daintily grab it with your pointer finger and thumb before shaking it violently. It kind of makes me happy. :)
*You've tried lots of new foods (mostly of the baby variety) and it seems like your favorite right now is apple blueberry.
*You bite everything. You've been "teething" since you were three months old and you still have nothing to show for it. But I'd rather have you bite my feet with gums than with teeth!
*You love reading. Anytime you can have a book in front of you, you grab it and try to turn the pages. You'll almost always sit and listen to what I'm reading to you. It makes me so excited to share chapter books in the future!
*You're really good and vocalizing consonants. Your best is dadada and you usually say it when you're happy. And I'm trying to help you realize that when daddy comes home, he's dadada. The one that makes me a little sad, though, is mamama. You almost exclusively say that when you're upset and want to be held. Not that I don't love hearing the beginnings of my name, but that it only seems to come when you're sad.
*You also traveled again--this time, to Colorado to visit the Judd side of the family. You loved spending time with your cousins, and they loved you.

I can't wait to see how much you grow this next month!

Scootching

A couple of weeks before Christmas, this started:

That's right, our daughter is scooting! And she moved over two feet in about twenty minutes. We're excited and nervous at the same time. :)

It's a new year, so why post about last year?

Azucena hopes you had a wonderful Christmas and can't wait to update this blog!
