Concerts in the Park

Salt Lake City has a thing during summer called "Concerts in the Park" which take place downtown every Tuesday and Friday night and are free. I love them because children are allowed to attend! My old roommate Rachel let us know that there was a Broadway-themed concert happening so we made our way downtown. To our surprise, Rachel was one of the performers. The entire thing was lovely and it was great to catch up with her.

30th Anniversary Concert

This year is my parents' 30th anniversary! (Pearl, for anyone who is curious.) My dad has a trip to Peru planned for both of them (plus Edgar, as a sort of graduation gift) but also decided back at Christmas that he wanted to throw a concert for her. This put a lot of pressure on all of us, because we had to learn a bunch of music! Dad got a guy from his school to do all the keyboard stuff; he took care of mandolin, double bass, and bass guitar; Edgar took care of the rhythmic stuff; Clark did some guitar/bass/singing; and Nicoel and I got to do back-up vocals while also playing the violin and clarinet, respectively. WHEW!

The concert was pretty awesome! It was pretty hard to be sneaky and leave the house to rehearse, but as soon as the concert actually started, Mom forgave all of us. :D

 

Birthday!

Hooray for birthdays! Especially because for this one, I kind of got spoiled by winning a few different things and then forcing Clark to take me to them. :D

At the end of March, I won a pair of tickets from Centerpoint Legacy Theater to see their production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. That was on Monday, April 1st. It was pretty darn fantastic! And, yes, I was a bum and didn't get a single picture. Oops.

On my actual birthday, we swung by the Sweet Tooth Fairy to pick up my free cupcake. I chose to get the Peanut Butter Chocolate confection so that I could share with Clark (and, admittedly, Azucena. She ate half the cupcake, no joke. Good thing Clark also got us some cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory!).

I also got tickets to the Friday night Tabernacle Spring concert, which featured the Orchestra at Temple Square and the Tabernacle Chorale.

President Monson's Birthday (August 17)

Since our two year anniversary was coming up, I was hoping that Clark and I could do something a little special by having an evening with just the two of us. Little did I know that Clark was planning a night out on our actual anniversary and that my parents would get us tickets to see Mandy Patakin in September. This meant that I had to come up with something really good--and I was able to get tickets to President Monson's 85th Birthday Celebration! It was great to drive to Temple Square and enjoy such a wonderful evening. And, unbeknownst to me, most of the evening was spent singing showtunes. Oops. Next year, I'll try to do something involving sports to make up for it. :D

University Band

Tuesday night was Clark's concert on campus. It was pretty interesting because the two groups participating had two different themes, A Night of British Music and A Night with Abraham Lincoln. :) Clark was part of the British Music end, which meant he could play timpani during the Robin Hood music. :) The other group had Dave Perry dressed up as Abraham Lincoln and he read the Gettysburg Address and several other things while the band played music from the era. I liked it a lot. :) And now, I'm going to listen to some Robin Hood!

Age Old Question

I don't think I ever posted vids or pics or even the set list from the concert, which goes to show just how crazy the last month has been. Here is a fabulous video, just because. (Okay, so it's a really crappy video, but it's a fabulous song!)

Another Concert?

Last night, my roommate and I were able to attend an amazing concert! I was pleasantly surprised to find that I'd purchased floor seats for the two of us (which meant we were right in the middle of the action) and the night sort of progressed from there. :D The two opening bands (Nervous Records and Mariachi El Bronx) were pretty decent and I enjoyed their music. I even called my mom during the mariachi band because I loved the Mexican sound they were producing. Then, finally, the KILLERS were up on stage! Unfortunately it wasn't for long because the stage manager (or someone like him) kicked them off right after their very first song due to "technical difficulties." I can't tell you how looooong the 15 minutes that we had to wait for the band to return felt (an eternity, okay?!) but it was worth it--they had a great show, I didn't end up behind the 6'8" guys for the entire night, there was FIRE involved and I can't wait to upload pictures and videos from it! :D

Jack's Mannequin and the Fray

Saturday night I was able to see and hear Jack's Mannequin and the Fray perform at the USANA Ampitheater. I feel so completely lucky that I was able to attend because it was a GREAT concert and I got to spend all day with Clark. :D

Um, yeah. Clark obviously attended the WRONG concert. ;) Just kidding, I know he loves the Fray!

Today just got better!

Not only is it beautiful outside and I'm about to get a free lunch, BUT I have just been informed that I have a ticket for the No Doubt/Paramore concert on May 25th!

"That was totally WICKED!"

Holy. Crap.

If you see tickets for Coldplay and they're less than $100, GO FOR IT. Seriously. This is not a joke. They're totally worth seeing for whatever amount you can get the tickets for. They're good performers, good musicians, and FANTASTIC people. I can't even begin to say how amazing my experience at that concert was. Granted, the opening band (the one I saw, at least) was about the weirdest, trippiest Alice-in-Wonderland experience I've ever had, but Coldplay more than made up for that guy.
