Busy Saturday!

Really, all our Saturdays are busy until July (I kid you not, JULY) but I couldn't think of a better title, so meh.

It began with meeting up with Hilary and Janae, both of whom I adore. We ditched the kids (most of them) and made our way over to Zupas for a final lunch before Hilary deserts us for Texas. (Yeah, TEXAS.) Lunch was fantastic and last over two hours (hooray!) and was located right next to the Sweet Tooth Fairy where Janae and Hilary picked up some cupcakes for dessert. Love these two ladies!

After getting back to the family, we headed over to a child development fair our (old) city was hosting. Unfortunately, not many folks had shown up, so they were packing up an hour and a half early but, happily, we got there in time to win some WalMart gift cards, get free books for both girls, and inherit some blocks and Tangram pieces for Azucena. Hooray!

We also headed down to Riverton (don't remember why, now) but were there in time to see Brady off to a Sadie Hawkins dance where he and his date decided to dress up and Carl and Ellie from "Up." Wish we had had more time for me to get some full-body shots--they looked great! (Brady was wearing floods, which was also a nice touch.) The funny thing we realized is that Brady is mostly wearing Clark's stuff--which had him declaring that he must already be an old man (at 27! What is the world coming to?!).

All in all, a great day.

Hilary's Baby Shower (August 23)

Hilary's baby shower was today and Janae was kind enough to pick me and Azucena up on her way down. There was delicious food (seriously, that watermelon was amazing. And those cake bites. But mostly the watermelon) and the blue and orange decorations were darling. I didn't get too many pictures, but I love all the expressions that Hilary makes when she's opening up cute baby clothing. :)    

Janae

Today was the last day I'd be able to hang out with Janae as a Provo-ite. She has moved back to CA. I'm super grateful I was able to hang out with her and that she has been so close these last few years. She's fabulous!

However, when I got in the car after I left her, the radio was playing "It's the End of the World" by R.E.M. When that song ended "Someone's Gotta Go" by Kelly Clarkson started up. And, while I was texting her, "If You're Gone" by Matchbox 20 started up.

I think the radio wanted to rub it in.

Draper Open House

The pictures will come soon, I promise! I just happened to forget my camera when I left for work today.

Anyway, I was able to go to the Draper Open House with Janae on Thursday afternoon. It's been a few years since I've been able to attend one (my first was the St. Louis and the second was Nauvoo (huzzah for being raised in the mid-West)) and I was very grateful for the chance to be able to go inside the Lord's house and see more than just the entrance hall and the baptistry (although those rooms were also beautiful).

I'm always amazed at the details that can be found in the craftsmanship of each of the Lord's houses. I remember going to the Salt Lake Temple (not the open house, obviously) and just looking around in awe. Especially every time I opened a door and realized that there was a miniature beehive on pretty much every handle.

I love all the hard work that goes into building these sacred buildings. I love the spirit that can be felt in them. I'm grateful to be a member of this church so I can have these opportunities.

All right. Last night I was able to see BYU perform "Thoroughly Modern Millie" which is one of my favorite shows out there. Here are the typical "we went to a show but we can't take pictures of the show so we'll be weird in our own photos" pictures:

This is us, ridiculously happy before the show began. We're awesome. Also, Janae, I like your hoodie!

Anyway, I absolutely adore this show. First of all, it takes place in the Roarin' 20s. Secondly, because the music and dancing in it is amazing. Also, I just really like the point that it makes. It teaches that you should love people for who they are rather than what others want you to think is right.

Also, guys who dance while dressed in black with sparkling white suspenders and fedoras *are* hot. Thanks for the heads up, macaroony. ;)

When everything falls apart, it all gets better

Yesterday was one of those trivial roller-coaster days. I mean, I had most of the day off (good) and Rock Band Track Pack no. 1 was finally released (good) and I spent a lot of time with Kristen (always really good) and smear some windows (always really fun). However, I also got a call saying "my car is broken, we're going to need to figure out another way up to SLC for the Batman movie (not good). Then I got to play Rock Band (fabulously good) and watch SYTYCD (also nice) but never got back in touch with my ride (bad) who also happened to have my ticket for the show (especially bad because it meant that it didn't matter if I found another ride, I didn't have a way into the theater). During all this, the guy I'm supposed to go out with on Saturday (no good or bad assessment yet) accused me of lying because I had told him I couldn't play a game because I was leaving to see a movie (bad--especially for him because you don't go around *saying* that to people you barely know).

I went to bed not knowing what happens in the new Batman movie.

This morning the guy made up for himself by offering to take me to Dark Knight on Saturday instead of what our original plans were because I finally got it through his thick skull that calling me a liar wasn't the way to win my heart. Dork. (Oh, yeah, that would be a good thing). Then my friend told me she had bought me tickets to see Mamma Mia! tonight and insisted I not reimburse her. Which was very sweet of her.

Moral of the story: 1) don't call girls you're taking out liars and 2) even if you think life sucks, it doesn't. Nice stuff will happen, if you're patient.

First blog!

This past Sunday, my friends and I decided we needed to take pictures of ourselves. Not that we don't have enough floating around. Anyway, here is just a sampling of us running around BYU campus. My roommate took the pictures, if you happen to like them.

Also, I'm pretty sure this blog will be more photographic than anything else, mainly because I like photography (I should take a class) and I love people in pictures. I especially like the memories that are made fresh every time a picture is brought out. I guess that's why I scrapbook so much. Anyway, if you have any tips about said pseudo-profession, let me know. I like getting better at things. It makes life happier!
